The (slightly audacious) 2013 Reading Plan (because left to my own devices I will surf pinterest and facebook for hours)

I’ve been very fortunate over the past two years to be a part of a leadership cohort at my church.  The experience has humbled me (I do not know nearly as much about…well, anything, as I thought I did), encouraged me, given me some of the best companions on this journey a person could ask for…and structure.  A rather demanding reading list has run like a bass line underscoring my past two years.  Complimenting the high notes and keeping rhythm when I’ve felt as though I lost my way.

But it’s coming to an end in just a few short weeks.

In light of this, I am determined to keep reading things that will inspire, challenge and encourage me.  Things that will continue to make me feel stupid, in hopes that one day I won’t be.  Things that force me to look differently at life, because I still like my comfort zone after all these years.

Here it goes…

January:  Finish The Brothers Karamasov.  Pick back up and finish Half the Church.

February: Adopted for Life and The Practice of the Presence of God.

March: Begin Les Miserables (this will take me more than one month)

April: Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids

May: Exclusion & Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation

June: Everything Belongs: The Gift of Contemplative Prayer

July: Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead

August: The Importance of Being Earnest

September: Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion and Truth in the Immigration Debate

October: Hope Abundant: Third World and Indigenous Women’s Theology

November:  Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption

December: Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son’s First Year

What’s on your reading list for 2013?

  1. Hmmm…I have a shelf where I’ve put my to-read books that kept getting pushed back due to books I had to read for other reasons. Trying to think what’s on it (too lazy to go look right now). Red Letter Revolution. When Helping Hurts. 1000 Gifts. Love Does. The Great Emergence. The Bible Made Impossible. Scripture and the Authority of God. Forgotten God. Yes, I got my butt up off the couch and went and looked. They are in no particular order.
