where the children fly
yesterday was full of dreaming, sharing and vision casting with the church staff, nice : ) i like stepping back to imagine where i would like to see my life and ministry a year from now, knowing full well that whatever i dream up will only be a tiny piece (at best) of what actually awaits me this year. when i think back to last january, i’m floored with all that God has done, i never could have dreamed this life up.
last january:
i was recently engaged
i was starting my last semester of college, uncertain of what i was going to do post-graduation
i was teaching Bible to 1-5th grade kids at the Wade Center
i was excited about life, but had little direction
my plan was: get married to ben westra, live in west virginia, continue to teach at Wade and maybe go back to get my Masters degree in a year or so.
however….
this january
i am married to the most wonderful man in the world (i know this is true because he’s sick this week and i still think he’s wonderful…everyone knows how annoying sick men can be)
i am a college graduate working in the field i studied, WOW!
i live in wisconsin. never, ever would have planned that.
i teach silly songs and crafts to the kids who live in my neighborhood.
i’m working on developing my curriculum development skills as ben and i run the kids ministry at TCC.
i have a greater understanding of what Christian community means than i ever anticipated possible.
i am learning to paint, sew, and grow my own food!
the plan: well, i could tell you that, but it would only change 🙂
God is so good! i love the verse in I Corinthians that talks about how enormous God’s plans for us are
“What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, and what has never come into a man’s heart, is what God has prepared for those who love Him. Now God has revealed them to us by the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the deep things of God.”
Amen and Amen! He is good!
last night after the all-day church meeting our next door neighbors stopped by to hang out, and after i unprecedentedly dominated several rounds of “pass the pigs” we let a little cabin fever explode and relieve itself in our living room. the result: kids flying through the air onto our couch. good thing our furniture is durable!
needless to say, it was a fun night.
check back tomorrow for the recipe!
grace and peace,
megan
You have no idea how much that verse (and the entire chapter surrounding them) relates to my life and what I was just discussing with my prayer partner last night. Thank you so much for sharing them with me and consequently, her! I love it when God gives you exactly what you need in random places 🙂
